**World War II 1943 Springfield M1 Garand Rifle with Original Barrel, Uncut Operating Rod, Locking Bar Sights

.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 1644974. Parkerized metal finish set in walnut semi-pistol grip stock with full length handguard, and mounting World War II era components. Long stroke piston driven gas operated semi-automatic rifle fed by an internal magazine charged with en bloc clips. Item mounts a locking bar rear sight paired with a hooded front blade with protectors, and displays the maker marking to receiver reading U.S. RIFLE/CAL. .30M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY. Serial number corresponds to a production date of June, 1943. Barrel struck 3-S-A-6-43 along with two punch dot marks to barrel, H, and 8 initial. Right receiver struck 033B {Diamond} 99 followed by part number D28291 27. Trigger housing D28291-12-SA with safety further marked C46015-9SA. Hammer face C46008-8-SA, correct for 1945 and indicating period replacement. Follower arm marked SS2. Operating rod has not been relief cut, and shows part number D353862 6 SA, the appropriate marking for a rifle manufactured at this point in time. Bolt flat correctly marked D28287-12SA/S-11/{Diamond}. Operating rod spring guide is unmarked, and likely replaced. Stock markings include circle P to the wrist, small Ordnance {Crossed Cannons} escutcheon and boxed SA/EMcF cartouche of inspector Earl McFarland, who commanded Springfield Armory from June of 1942 through July of 1943. Comes with a canvas sling. Stock void of tools. An impressive example of an M1 Garand rifle in wartime configuration with some field use, wear, and period replaced small parts. {C&R}

Condition
Very Good. Bore is dirty with some dust and residue that should clean to Bright with some visible wear to the rifling throughout. Parkerized finish has worn down on the gas tube, and shows some thinning and scratches scattered overall, along with some light edgewear. Item further shows some light nicks along the edges of the metalwork. Spanner nut within the locking bar has had one side shear off. Though the sight adjusts, this means it is compromised. Operating rod is bent. Stock exhibits handling wear and mars with the stock markings having worn down, likely due to light sanding. Some dents, scratches, and stains to the wood overall. Checkering to the butt has been worn off on the edges. Item shows a throat erosion reading of between 2 and 3 and muzzle reading of about 4.
