**World War II 1943 Springfield M1 Garand Rifle with Original Barrel, Uncut Operating Rod, Locking Bar Sights
.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 1644974. Parkerized metal finish set in walnut semi-pistol grip stock with full length handguard, and mounting World War II era components. Long stroke piston driven gas operated semi-automatic rifle fed by an internal magazine charged with en bloc clips. Item mounts a locking bar rear sight paired with a hooded front blade with protectors, and displays the maker marking to receiver reading U.S. RIFLE/CAL. .30M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY. Serial number corresponds to a production date of June, 1943. Barrel struck 3-S-A-6-43 along with two punch dot marks to barrel, H, and 8 initial. Right receiver struck 033B {Diamond} 99 followed by part number D28291 27. Trigger housing D28291-12-SA with safety further marked C46015-9SA. Hammer face C46008-8-SA, correct for 1945 and indicating period replacement. Follower arm marked SS2. Operating rod has not been relief cut, and shows part number D353862 6 SA, the appropriate marking for a rifle manufactured at this point in time. Bolt flat correctly marked D28287-12SA/S-11/{Diamond}. Operating rod spring guide is unmarked, and likely replaced. Stock markings include circle P to the wrist, small Ordnance {Crossed Cannons} escutcheon and boxed SA/EMcF cartouche of inspector Earl McFarland, who commanded Springfield Armory from June of 1942 through July of 1943. Comes with a canvas sling. Stock void of tools. An impressive example of an M1 Garand rifle in wartime configuration with some field use, wear, and period replaced small parts. {C&R}
